This was our 3rd time fishing with Captain Mike out of Wanchese Harbor. We started out in Pirates Cove. We had some new anglers on board and they were quickly brought up to speed on the basics. The fish were biting ok, everyone saw at least some action and it was shaping up to be another nice morning. But then Captain Mike made a clutch decision to relocate south and within minutes, our nice morning became an epic adventure. Everyone was catching fish. It felt like we were pulling them in almost non stop and we ended up with our best day ever in OBX. We make this trip almost annually and we are certain to be coming back!  

Ok, March is very early in the fishing season. We, along with other people out on the water, did not catch anything. It did start to rain and a lil lightning,  so we ended a little early.  It was our family's first charter fishing and we did not know what to expect. So, even though we did not catch anything, we still had alot of fun.  Capt. Mike filled in the dead time wit information about the area. Including Capt. Blackbeard and his run ins with the royal navy. The Wright Brothers. Local fishing crazes. Fishing techniques. Changes to the area over the years. Different types of boats and thier purposes. Conservation of the wildlife.  We plan to schedule another trip with Capt. Mike and hope we have better luck in October. That is usually the best time for fishing in the sound. 

If you are looking for a great inshore fishing experience in the Outer Banks, look no further! My girlfriend and I went out fishing with Captain Mike, and we had an awesome day! It was cold and the fishing was tough, but that didn’t stop Captain Mike from working tirelessly to get us on fish. He is very personable and very clearly wants his clients to feel welcomed and have a pleasant experience while out on his charters. If you are looking to get your kids into fishing, this is definitely the charter for you! Captain Mike has many great stories from his days as a teacher in the classroom, so it was really cool getting to experience his teaching out on the water. As a fellow teacher, I could not recommend Old School Fishing Charters enough!  

We found the fish first thing and put them in the boat with a few good size one in the mix. My seven year old caught two completely on her own. Captain Mike set her perfect so she could do it all on her own. She does have experience but not in this style of fishing l. The rains came in hard  and we all for soaked but that did stop anyone. Now we are eating fresh fish that way delicious. Thanks Captain.  

My husband & I loved our trip with Captain Michael. he was very patient & Knowledgable. The boat was nice & clean. He taught us a technique to use for fishing in the ocean & we caught a fish! mine was a little small one & my husband caught several, but we had a great trip & will definitely be back to fish with him again!  

Our trip was scheduled when there was unusual northwinds... Captain Mike took his boat out of wanchese and up to Kitty hawk Bay so we could go out fishing. We had a really good day. I caught two red drum One of which was 23 in, 2 speckled trout . Captain Mike was great- very knowledgeable and helpful. This was my first fishing charter and I'm so glad we chose Captain Mike. We will definitely be going back out with him hopefully next year when we come down. 

While on vacation in Outer Banks, we decided we wanted to do a fishing trip. Captain Mike answered me promptly about the fishing for the week and we were able to book a trip for Thursday. He sent all the information we needed before hand and was ready for our trip at 7am. The weather called for wind, but it was still manageable and Captain Mike was very considerate to not get us soaking wet. Our trip started slow but he made sure to get us on some fish! We were able to catch some gorgeous Sea Trout and a Weakfish. Mike is super knowledgeable about the area and truly cares about the fisheries in OBX. As someone who works in fisheries and with charters before, I would absolutely recommend Old School Fishing Charters for a fantastic charter fishing experience. Thank you again Mike and we hope to fish with you again in the future!  

We're a family of four with two sons (19 and 16) who enjoy fishing. We booked the 3p-7p evening trip and had a great time with Captain Mike! Even though we weren't new to fishing, Mike took the time to go over casting basics and tips.  When someone made a mistake, he had a great attitude and had fun with it. Best of all, though, Mike knew where to find the fish.  In our four hours, he took us to three different locations and we were landing fish in all three spots.  In fact, each of us caught our daily limit...which was more than we had expected.  Mike also took the time to tell us about the areas where we were fishing and WHY those areas were successful.  That kind of knowledge will help us on many future fishing trips.  Even though our "kids" are no longer young, we could tell Mike would be great with younger kids, too.  So, we'd highly recommend his services for any family looking for a fun and productive day on the water! 

We went out with Captain Mike yesterday morning and had a really good time! The trout were biting well to start with but cooled off as the morning went on. We caught 3 nice keeper trout and 1 throwback. Inexperience probably hampered our take home total because we had a lot more bites than that! Captain Mike was friendly and very helpful and maybe a little frustrated that we didn't catch more fish.  The main reason that my wife and I went with Mike and Old School Fishing Charters is that he offered a 2 person maximum charter at a much better price than the other charters I looked at. I would recommend this charter especially to 2 person parties that don't want to spend 40% more on a charter priced for 4 or more people.  

Started off a little rocky due to the weather but Mike quickly got us rebooked for the next morning. Mike is very knowledgeable about fishing and the Outer Banks and had some cool stories. It was just my son and I and Mike got us  hooked up and we fished several areas and were able to land some speckled trout. Great experience and couldn't recommend Mike more. 10/10!
